Moderator Training

Based on SAQA’s Unit Standard 115759 NQF Level 6, 10 credits

This practical course will equip learners with the required knowledge and skills to conduct moderation of outcomes-based assessment. The Moderator training course will further your understanding of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and will help you in developing your skills and acquiring a variety of qualifications within the fields of Education Training and Development Practices and Human Resource Development.

It is the responsibility of the Moderator to moderate assessment according to relevant outcome statements and quality assurance requirements. The responsibility of the Moderator is significant and they need to meet a high standard of criteria and have to be registered before they are allowed to moderate.

  • Clarifying the contexts of the assessments with the assessor
  • Enduring the moderation methods and processes deal with all forms of evidence
  • Clearly documenting moderation decisions
  • Making logistical arrangements for moderation

Conduct Moderation

  • Moderating according to the moderation plan
  • Checking assessment instruments and processes
  • Providing for special needs of candidates
  • Ensuring the correct proportion of assessments are selected
  • Handing appeals according to organisational appeal procedures
  • Ensuring the moderator decision is fair, valid and reliable

Advise and Support Assessors

  • Ensuring a common understanding of the relevant outcomes
  • Ensuring advice promotes the development and maintenance of quality management systems
  • Ensuring support contributes towards the further development of assessors
  • Ensuring communication is conducted confidential

Report, Record and Administer Moderation

  • Reporting your findings within agreed time-frames
  • Maintaining records in accordance with organisational quality assurance
  • Preserving confidentiality of information relating to candidates and assessors

Review Moderation Systems and Processes

  • Identifying strengths and weaknesses of moderation systems and processes
  • Recommending improvements to moderation systems and processes
